Announcing a postdoctoral position in Dr. Stephen Mitroff’s Visual Cognition Lab at George Washington University. Research projects focus on individual differences in, and the malleability of, visual perception and attention. Study topics include what makes one individual a better visual searcher than another, how visual search abilities can be enhanced and trained, and how visual search skills develop. The project involves testing university-based participants in typical cognitive psychology studies and also assessing “big data” collected via smartphone apps. This position is funded by the Army Research Office, and the research program focuses on several applied topics including military and security searches. Knowledge of vision and attention research and programming ability are required (MATLAB/Psychtoolbox experience preferred). Strong statistical abilities are strongly preferred. The position is for one year with the possibility of more. The start date is flexible—between now and Summer 2017.
