Re: [visionlist] Plagiarism checks in Empirical Manuscripts

Dear all,

I find this thread very interesting. It reflects some of my concerns about using plagiarism software on student assignments. In particular, if students are required to pre-check and told them need to get below a certain score you end up with overly complex sentences (or gibberish) as they try to re-write a sentence that no one has ever written before. I’m not suggesting that this software should never be used, but obviously wherever it is used it needs and human being (probably with quite a lot of experience) to sense check it!
